About the Role:

American Wholesale Lighting (AWL) is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Market Sector Business Developer to join our growing team. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, this role is essential in expanding our business in specific sectors by cultivating relationships, driving growth, and becoming recognized experts in each industry.


Critical to this role is your ability to understand our mission, align with our vision, embrace our purpose, and live our core values. You will play a key role in expanding our client base, cultivating new business opportunities, and positioning the company as a market leader.


Key Responsibilities

Market Expertise

  • Become the go-to expert in assigned sectors (e.g., Healthcare, Hospitality, Senior Living, Transportation) to position AWL as a trusted solutions provider.

  • Conduct thorough market research and competitive analysis to track trends, client needs, and identify revenue opportunities.

  • Build deep knowledge of AWL’s lighting solutions and align them with revenue-generation strategies.

 

Business Development

  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan tailored to your sectors, meeting AWL’s revenue and growth objectives.

  • Secure high-value business opportunities by cultivating relationships with decision-makers, leading to closed deals and long-term partnerships.

  • Manage go/no-go decisions, ensuring alignment with AWL’s growth strategy, profitability goals, and operational capacity.

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities.

·       Respond to inbound leads.

·       Update and understand CRM.

·       Provide customer presentation development and delivery.

·       Provide support as the first contact for American Wholesale Lighting.  

·       Maintain a heavy focus on account acquisition.

·       Identify and develop business opportunities in assigned Vertical Markets.

·       Develop and execute sales action plans that deliver profitable growth according to the accepted business plan, with emphasis on achieving AWL revenue and margin targets.

·       Maintain a full understanding of AWL’s solution portfolio.

·       Upsell and Cross-sell AWL solution portfolio within assigned Vertical Market.

·       Keep close coordination with Sales Management and Operation teams.

 

Relationship Building

  • Develop a robust network within the sector, forming partnerships that align with AWL’s growth objectives.

  • Attending industry events, conferences, and trade shows to represent AWL and identify new revenue opportunities.

  • Proactively address client feedback to enhance satisfaction and retention.

  • Evaluate customer needs, understand market drivers and forces, and ensure appropriate service/product delivery and pricing. 

 

Collaboration and Reporting

  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Business Development and marketing team to align sales strategies with broader revenue and growth goals.

  • Report on sector performance, client feedback, and pipeline progress, providing actionable insights to leadership.

  • Contribute to the development and execution of Client Capture Plans targeting high-value clients.

 

Sector Thought Leadership

  • Represent AWL as a thought leader through industry engagement, speaking opportunities, and published content.

  • Adapt strategies to meet evolving client needs and ensure AWL’s offerings remain innovative and competitive.

 

Additional Duties

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of business development experience, preferably within relevant sectors (e.g., Healthcare, Hospitality, Senior Living, Transportation)

  • Proven ability to close deals and drive revenue growth.

  • Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding business development targets through effective client relationship building, strategic planning, and expert negotiation skills.

  • Strong understanding of industry trends and competitive landscapes.

  • Exceptional communication and networking skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.

  • CRM experience a plus

  • Industry or Market specific experience a plus

  • Understand blueprints and lighting layouts

  • High level of integrity, initiative, and self-motivation with a results-oriented mindset.


Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $100,000 - $145,000 annually, based on experience and location.

  • Bonus/Commission commensurate with experience and performance.

  • Expenses: Full reimbursement for approved travel and remote work-related expenses as per state law.

Work Location

This is a remote position, some travel required for client meetings, industry events, and conferences.
