Project
Lilly Pulitzer

Lilly Pulitzer’s existing stores, particularly a legacy location in Greenwich, Connecticut, suffered f rom outdated lighting that was dim, inconsistent, and ineffective in showcasing the brand’s hallmark colorful apparel. Low-budget puck lights, poor color rendering, and glare-ridden dressing rooms detracted f rom the overall shopping experience. Additionally, the lighting failed to harmonize with key design elements such as the brand’s signature shimmery wallpapers. The challenge was to completely reimagine the lighting design to align with the brand’s visual identity while delivering a luminous, inviting, and on-brand atmosphere without escalating construction budgets.
AWL collaborated directly with Lilly Pulitzer’s architectural and construction teams, engaging in a deeply hands-on process to define and deliver a lighting scheme that enhanced both the space and the shopper’s journey. By incorporating high-CRI, architectural-grade fixtures and conducting photometric analyses at every location, AWL standardized a design approach that was adaptable yet consistently impactful. Special attention was given to unique design features including reflective wallpapers, where lighting was tailored to create a gentle shimmer without glare. AWL developed a repeatable but customized scheme that balanced general illumination, wall washing, and perimeter lighting to showcase products and spatial elements in the best light.
The project enhanced product presentation through improved color rendering and lighting distribution, refined store ambiance that aligned with Lilly Pulitzer’s playful and polished brand aesthetic, and delivered a consistent experience across stores using adaptable and scalable lighting kits. It also generated positive client feedback and strengthened relationships with key decision-makers and design teams.

Retail
Lilly Pulitzer, a brand synonymous with bold, beach-inspired fashion, needed a lighting partner that could match its vibrant personality with equally dynamic in-store ambiance. Dissatisfied with prior lighting outcomes and seeking to elevate the shopper experience, Lilly Pulitzer turned to American Wholesale Lighting (AWL) for a transformative solution across its retail footprint.
